Torbay Green Spaces are developing an exciting programme of citizen science events to map our local heritage and wildlife in the bay and are seeking an enthusiastic person to lead on a programme of activities in our parks and green spaces.

Supported by our friendly team and working directly with the Community Green Spaces Project Manager and Community Engagement Apprentice, the Citizen Science Co-ordinator will gain experience in planning and delivering events to engage, schools, groups and the wider community in citizen science activities in our public open spaces.

The Torbay Green Spaces project is designed to encourage the wider community to engage with and take ownership of their local parks and green spaces.

Main Tasks:
• Liaise with groups to arrange citizen science and educational park and green space activities
• Research requirements by events team for activities held in public spaces
• Development of citizen science activities and events
• Leading activities and events


You will have good communication and interpersonal skills and be happy to engage with a wide public audience and varied age range of participants

You will work with creativity and flexibility both independently and as part of a team

You will need to be physically fit to carry and move equipment and materials

You will have an interest in delivering educational activities in outdoor spaces

You will have good IT skills, with knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook and have good levels of numeracy and literacy

You should be available for at least three days per month (by arrangement)

In return for the commitment of up to two days per week, you will get a dedicated line manager and be given a real chance to contribute. You can expect to build knowledge in educational delivery, engagement and the charity sector and gain invaluable personal development.

Role-specific training to support your volunteering.

Travel expenses to and from your place of work of up to £10 per day will be reimbursed.

It is the responsibility of each employee and volunteer to familiarise themselves and comply with the organisation’s procedures and systems on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Primary responsibilities are:

• To adhere to the Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults Policy and Procedures.
• To adhere to the Safer Recruitment & Selection Policy & Procedure.
• To report any safeguarding incidents or concerns immediately to your Designated Safeguarding Officer or Lead Designated Safeguarding Officer.
• To complete any Safeguarding Awareness training as required by Groundwork South
• If required for your post; undertake an enhanced DBS check and maintain annual membership through the update service.
