The role

To support the development and delivery of a programme of community-led events and activities in parks and green spaces in Torbay (or a town therein). Torbay Green Spaces are developing an exciting programme of events to showcase our local heritage and wildlife in the bay.

Supported by our friendly team and working directly with the Community Green Spaces Project Manager and Community Engagement Apprentice, the Heritage Engagement Co-ordinator will gain experience in planning and delivering public events and engaging the wider community in planning and delivering a wide range of events in our public open spaces. The Heritage Engagement Co-ordinator will directly contribute to increasing Groundwork South’s capacity to deliver activities which have a positive benefit on the health and wellbeing of the Torbay communities.

Main tasks you may undertake:

  • Research requirements by events team for activities held in public spaces
  • Development of fundraising, education and fun activities and events
  • Preparation of small to medium funding bids
  • Attendance at fundraising activities and events
  • Networking
  • Securing donations from businesses and individuals
  • Development of a fundraising committee
  • Supporting the Project Manager in the preparation of larger funding bids and  tenders


You will have good communication and interpersonal skills and be happy to engage with a wide public audience and varied age range of participants

You will work with creativity and flexibility both independently and as part of a team

You will need to be physically fit to carry and move equipment and materials

You will have good IT skills, with knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook and have good levels of numeracy and literacy

You should be available for at least three days per month (by arrangement)


In return for the commitment of up to three days per week, you will get a dedicated line manager and be given a real chance to contribute. You will get work experience in a successful organisation that will demonstrate your abilities and commitment to future employers. We will also give you support with job applications and references for future employers.

Travel expenses to and from your place of work of up to £10 per day will be reimbursed.

Support can be offered to achieve a level 2 qualification in Business Administration as part of this role.
